Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews' is the rare artist who can draw both the unqualified respect of jazz legends and deliver a high-energy show capable of mesmerizing international rock stars and audiences alike. Raised in New Orleans 6th Ward neighborhood, Tremé, Troy got his nickname at four years old when he was observed by his older brother James marching in a street parade wielding a trombone twice as long as the kid was tall. This cultural backdrop of the Tremé - the oldest black neighborhood in the U.S. - is at the root of Troy's music, infusing it with a streetwise, gritty feel that defies the stereotype of the New Orleans jazz musician and shows what this audacious young artist and his cohorts are going for, and pulling off.
Andrews is the kind of player who comes along maybe once in a generation. Equally adept on trombone and trumpet, he has applied the same skill and fierce discipline to his vocal instrument. His powerhouse band, Orleans Avenue, is known for the 200-proof intensity of its devastating live performances, earning an ever-growing following for its combination of virtuosity and high-energy, party-down intensity.
Trombone Shorty has collaborated with U2, Eric Clapton, Lenny Kravitz, Jeff Beck, Dave Matthews Band, Dr. John, Charles Neville, Harry Connick, Jr., Mos Def, Buckwheat Zydeco, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. His starring appearances include the 2011 Newport Jazz Festival, Jay Leno. David Letterman, NPR’s On Point and Mountain Stage, Austin City Limits, Bonoroo, Montreal Jazz Festival, and the HBO series, Tremé. Accolades include a 2011 Grammy Nomination for Best Contemporary Jazz Album and Billboard’s number one jazz album. Offbeat voted Shorty Best Artist, Best Trumpet, Best Trombone, Best Album, Best R & B/Funk Artist, and Performer of the Year.

"Deeply rooted and culturally omnivorous."
- Rolling Stone
"Shorty possesses the rarest combination of talent, technical capability and down-home soul. I'm his biggest fan."
- Wynton Marsalis
“Don’t get me wrong. We got it goin’ on in New Orleans, he’s just better.”
- Allen Toussaint
"We walked in and the place was jumping. There was this little funk band and we were just mesmerized by him. I ended up with Bono, after a few tequilas, dancing with a bunch of girls on the top of the bar. It was one of those sort of nights."
- U2 Guitarist, The Edge, recalling when he saw Trombone Shorty perform at age 12.

Mississippi blues singer and pianist Eden Brent will open the concert. Brent combines boogie-woogie with elements of blues, jazz, soul, gospel and pop. Her vocal style has been compared to Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie, Janis Joplin, and Aretha Franklin. Brent’s many awards include the Blues Foundation’s Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year (2010), Acoustic Artist of the Year (2009), and Acoustic Album of the Year (2009). Special performances include Washington’s Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
